Springfield Mortuary Service, Inc. has proudly been serving our local area since 1961. The company was founded by two local morticians, Gene Hunter and Bill Abbot. Along with embalming services, the firm also operated AAA Ambulance Service. Jerry Carson eventually became the owner of the company. He later merged it with Commercial Embalming Service, which had previously been operated by Donavan Lakin. As far as the founding morticians, Gene Hunter went on to own Marshfield Casket Company, and Mr. Abbott became a partner of Gorman Scharpf Funeral Home in Springfield, Missouri.
Brian Simmons purchased the business in 1987. During this time, the firm has moved three locations. In 2004, Mr. Simmons built a new state-of-the-art facility, which also included a crematory. A second retort and cold room with a 50-body capacity was added a few years later.
Springfield Mortuary Service offers the complete spectrum of services; embalming, shipping (both domestic and international), cremation, refrigeration, removal and livery service and supply items such as body bags, gloves and infant caskets, air trays and combo units.
Jennifer Simmons, licensed funeral director and daughter of Brian Simmons, joined the family business in 1999.

Brian Simmons
Our owner, Brian Simmons, began his career in the funeral industry in 1961. With the exception of four years of service in the US Navy, he has worked continuously in this field since then. Brian is Cum Laude graduate of the Kentucky School of Mortuary Science, class of 1972. He is a licensed funeral director and embalmer in both Missouri and Arkansas.
Brian also represented his area's Missouri Funeral Directors Association for many years as President, and Secretary-Treasurer, prior to the restructuring of the 9th District Association around 2011.

We are located at 520 S. Patterson Avenue, Springfield, MO 65802
Private Viewing Room
Clients are welcome to have caskets delivered to our facility. We can also perform restorative arts, dress, and casket to your specifications. You can pick up the casketed remains from us, or we will gladly deliver to your facility.
Cremation Services
We are equipped with two crematory units. Our first unit was installed in 2004 during construction of our facility, and the second was installed in 2009.
